I used to be an Uber-Geek back in the day, but now I just try to keep my ancient hardware running.
I've dumped all Microsoft Bloatware and run Ubuntu Linux on our two 512meg, P3/4 generation PCs. Good thing about running Ubuntu is the wife doesn't catch any bugs anymore, was a hassle just keeping her PC alive while she was on XP.
Got In2Streams.com internet TV running out to the TV in the living room (best $15/mo I've spent) so no need for Cable or Dish. That's about the extent of my current geekyness....

You know, I have alot of friends who have gone over to Ubuntu. I do ALOT of gaming on my computer so I opted to stay with Windoze. I'm sure some day this phase will run it's course and I'll end up with a re-made commodore or something with enough juice to check email, news..... and of course, LoZ.

GS, that In2Streams.com looks completely illegal to me - how long have you had it? Are they actual streams, or do you end up dloading an MPEG or something?

I've been using them for over a year now with no problems. Regarding legal issues, anything broadcast over the air in Canada can not be copyright restricted, some lawsuit they had back in the VHS days I guess, so many of the shows are from Canadian feeds and the site is somewhere in Europe, not sure where but they use CET for their time zone, so I guess they have found a workaround to the whole legality thing.
The streams pop up in a Flash window (works fine on Linux), which I then drag to my second monitor which is my TV, then full screen it and it's just like regular TV, only no commercials and I can watch a whole season in a shot instead of waiting week to week. (still waiting for Lost s6 to finish up so I can watch it all in one sitting.) I think the streams are about 400k, so doing other things, like playing Pogo, at the same time, especially on this old PC, can definitely affect playback quality, but general surfing, and Zork, don't bother it at all.

Thanks for the reply - I'm going to definitely consider this - just need to make sure the wife's shows are there...

I would post a picture of my Rig, but it's really just a heavy black box with a blue led on the front of it. My case seriously weighs like 35 pounds with nothing in it.

Wow, nice "rig" G-Rock. If I had that in my little house I'd probably blow a fuse...lol
I'm jealous of your screen, I have one of those ones that needs a really strong table and makes a loud degaussing noise when you first switch it on ;-) And I run my PC without the side covers because a. it gets overheated with the pathetic cooling fan and b. I'm forever having to "jiggle" the wires.
God forbid if it went wrong for more than a few days...all that missed fame and unbashed BGLers.
Oooooh the pretty lights! I want some.

Heh, yeah I <3 me some lights. Too bad the Network card came solely with red LEDs. Ah well, gives it personality I guess. But when I game I take the side off the case. The cooler I can keep my pc the longer life it SHOULD have. May as well squeeze every bit of potential life I have out of this. I won't be building another one for quite some time.

Couple of recent upgrades to the rig. - Cool Master 932 HAF - Cool Master V8 CPU cooler - Creative X-Fi Fatality Sound Card MUCH better air flow and cooling. Nearly 10 degrees difference in core temps and case temps as well as steady cool temps of the cpu while running Prime95 stress tests. 64 degrees as opposed to the 78-84 degrees I was getting on the stock cooler. Here are a couple pics.

G-Rock: I notice you have what looks like a D-Link DIR-655 sitting next to your box. I've used those pretty much exclusively since they came out, and highly recommend them to everyone.
I don't have a pic handy, but I've got 6 LCDs sitting here in front of and next to me. 5 of them are attached to 2 workstations (2 on 1, 3 on the other, connected via Synergy so only 1 keyboard/mouse), the other is attached to 2 servers (WHS and Ubuntu, though there is a second hardware-identical Ubuntu machine also down there but unattached), and then there's the machine upstairs hooked up (bi-directional) to the home theater system, and the laptop out in the garage hooked up to the projector (15'x9' screen about 30 feet away) and that home theater system, and then the laptop near the kitchen, and...um, the rest of the machines are in storage. (:
Did I mention I design operating systems and such for a living?

Good eye mate. Yes, that came from my uncle who is a computer programmer who works for an international data transfer/encryption etc. company. <3 A fellow geek. I have a lot to learn yet but I do try to listen to suggestions of those who are more learned in this particular area since I only want to have to pay for any piece of computer equipment ONCE, if I can help it. ;D
